The guide says orcs can't be warriors
2004 said
Every Horde race has warriors except the orcs, whose ranks were "depleted" by war.
Forever says
Orc warriors are playable, as they were on the first day of the original game.
In its overview of the classes, the 2004 guide goes through which races take up the warrior's trade. On the Alliance, all of them. On the Horde, tauren, trolls and undead. Then it adds that the orcs alone are left without, and gives a reason from the lore.
It's the most confident mistake in the book. The guide went to print before the game was finished, and at some point between the writing and the launch the orcs got their warriors back. Orc warrior went on to be one of the best-known combinations in the game.
This is why the book is worth reading now. It's a snapshot of a world that was still being decided.
A warrior is the armoured fighter who stands at the front and takes the hits. An orc is the green one on every box cover. The idea that the two couldn't go together is hard to picture today.
