Druid
The class that can fill any role, and changes shape to do it. Forever's changes are mostly about letting a druid stay in form.
A druid can tank as a bear, deal damage as a cat or a spellcaster, and heal. Blizzard's summary is that druids "can perform any role" but give up some of the extras other classes bring: they cannot snare, silence or interrupt.
Pick it if you can't decide what you want to be, or if you like the idea of being whatever the group is missing.
Who can be one
Alliance: Night elf, High Order Skyborne.
Horde: Tauren, Windshaper Skyborne.
What Blizzard has changed
- Potions and most consumables work while shapeshifted, without dropping you out of form.
- Weapon enchantments and effects work in bear and cat form.
- Most doors and objects can be used without leaving form, and so can racial abilities.
- Revive, a new out-of-combat resurrection spell, is learned at level 12.
- Nature's Grasp and Omen of Clarity are learned by every druid rather than bought with talent points.
What to wear
Armor: Leather.
Look for: By role: intellect, or strength and stamina.
Weapons: Staves and maces. In Forever the weapon matters in animal form too.
Pick the role first. A bear or cat now shops for weapons the way a warrior does. The gear guide has the rest.
Shapeshifting means turning into an animal with its own set of buttons. A druid is several small classes in one, which is why it suits people who get bored easily.

In the 2004 guide
The 2004 guide gives the druid 9 pages (pp. 92–100): a short story, an introduction, starting attributes by race, ability tables, talents and strategy.
We have no then-and-now entries for the druid so far.
