The hunter in Forever

Hunter

Damage from further away than anyone else, with an animal at your side. In Forever you can also choose to go without the animal.

Hunters have one job in a group, which is damage, and Blizzard says they have the longest range of any class. On your own, the pet takes the hits while you shoot. That makes the hunter the easiest class to play alone.

The catch is the dead zone. Inside 8 yards a hunter's ranged attacks don't work, so the class is about keeping your distance.

Who can be one

Alliance: Dwarf, human, night elf, High Order Skyborne.
Horde: Orc, tauren, troll, Windshaper Skyborne.

What Blizzard has changed

  • Aimed Shot is learned by every hunter at level 20.
  • Traps can be used in combat.
  • Pets grow stronger with the hunter's gear, and foxes are a new pet family.
  • The talent trees allow a hunter with no pet at all, or one that moves between ranged and melee.

What to wear

Armor: Leather, then mail later on.
Look for: Agility, then stamina.
Weapons: The bow or gun is the weapon that counts. Melee weapons are there for the stats on them.

The ranged weapon first. Then agility on everything. The gear guide has the rest.

New here?

A pet is an animal you tame in the world and keep. It fights beside you, and choosing which animal is half the fun of the class.

In the 2004 guide

The 2004 guide gives the hunter 9 pages (pp. 101–109): a short story, an introduction, starting attributes by race, ability tables, talents and strategy.
