Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start a workout?
Open Momentary on your Apple Watch and tap to start a session. You can also start a workout from the iPhone app.
Do I need an internet connection?
You can record voice moments offline — they'll be stored locally. However, transcription and AI processing require an internet connection since they use OpenAI's APIs. Everything queues up and processes automatically when you're back online.
How do I set up AI features?
Go to Settings in the iPhone app and enter your OpenAI API key. Once set, transcription and AI processing will run automatically when your workout ends.
Why isn't my transcription appearing?
- Make sure your Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone.
- Keep your iPhone nearby and open the app at least once.
- Check that you have a valid OpenAI API key in Settings.
- Confirm you have an internet connection for transcription.
- Try recording a longer moment with clear speech.
What data does Momentary send to the cloud?
Audio recordings are sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription. Transcript text is then sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o for workout log generation, content creation, and insights. No other data leaves your device. There are no analytics or tracking.
Does it work with Apple Health?
Yes. Momentary automatically syncs your workouts to Apple Health as strength training sessions, including duration and calorie data.
What HealthKit data does Momentary use?
Momentary reads live heart rate and active calories during your workout. When you end a session, it saves a strength training workout to Apple Health with duration, heart rate, and calorie data.
Can I edit my workout log after AI processing?
Yes. Tap Edit on any workout to modify exercises, sets, reps, or weights. Your changes are saved locally and won't be overwritten.
